Perspektif Islam terhadap Pluralisme Agama: Menyelami Toleransi dan Keharmonisan Antarkeyakinan
Abstract
Religious pluralism remains a subject of debate in Islamic thought, particularly regarding the relationship between acknowledging religious diversity and maintaining the theological beliefs of each religious community. This article aims to examine the Islamic perspective on religious pluralism, focusing on the emergence of pluralism discourse in the Islamic context and the differing views among Muslims in responding to it. The discussion identifies two main tendencies: those who reject religious pluralism because they consider it to equate the truth claims of all religions, and those who accept it as a reality of religious diversity that should be addressed through openness and peaceful coexistence. The article also explores the concepts related to religious pluralism in the Qur’an, particularly the recognition of the existence of other religions, freedom of religion, and respect for differences in belief without conflating religious doctrines. This discussion highlights that differing views on religious pluralism are closely related to how theological boundaries and social relations among religious communities are understood. Therefore, this study is expected to clarify the position of religious pluralism within Islamic discourse and its relevance to life in a diverse society.
