https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1844

Inefficiency in bureaucracy, corruption, and weak governance are global problems that impact societal welfare. This research introduces fikih birokrasi (bureaucratic jurisprudence) as a new concept that bridges the gap between modern public administration theory and normative Islamic law by using the maqashid syariah (objectives of Islamic law) as its foundational value. The principle of maslahah (public interest) is positioned both as an ethical norm and a practical instrument for creating governance that is just, ssustainable, and accountable. The methodology employed is a descriptive-qualitative approach, utilizing the Miles and Huberman model for analysis. The research findings indicate that fikih birokrasi contributes a practical framework for public administration based on maqashid syariah, which can be operationalized through indicators of Islamic governance. This research presents a discourse offering an alternative paradigm in bureaucracy that connects the worldly-spiritual hereafter dimension, the individual-collective aspect, and material-spiritual needs with the practical demands of modern governance.
M. https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1617

The contemporary da’wa social movement has catalyzed transformative shifts in religious practices. Da’wa no longer confined to Islamic political advocacy, revivalist agendas, or moral panics, da’wa now intersects with the commodification of faith, merging Islamic identity with pop culture and market-driven trends. This evolution has redefined religious engagement, prioritizing the symbolic appropriation of popular culture to appeal to modern audiences. Methodologically, this study employs an ethnographic field research approach, focusing on the Muslim youth community associated with Teras Dakwah Community in Yogyakarta. The findings reveal that market-oriented religious practices have fostered consumerist tendencies, exemplified by the commercialization of Islamic fashion, the redesign of da’wa study spaces into café-like environments, and the rebranding of preaching venues as social hubs for youth. Consequently, da’wa culture has transitioned into a hybrid space where religious discourse coexists with pop aesthetics, reflecting broader societal shifts toward the commodification of spirituality. This article clearly explains Schielke's argument that piety consumption is not something that can be avoided, as it is an adaptation to the condition of being a Muslim in the modern era.
Eko SaputraKirana Nur Lyansari

https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1683

This study investigates the hermeneutical strategies of the Bābīyah and Bahā’īyah, focusing on their symbolic and esoteric reinterpretations of the Qurʾān in legitimizing new religious authority. Employing a qualitative library-based approach, the research examines primary texts alongside classical tafsīr traditions and modern hermeneutical theories. The analysis demonstrates that the Bābīyah and Bahā’īyah shifted from the linguistic-philological hermeneutics of classical mufassirūn such as al-Ṭabarī, Ibn Kathīr, and al-Dhahabī toward charismatic-symbolic readings, where the authority of the interpreter overrides transmitted knowledge. Comparative engagement with contemporary hermeneutical models, including Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd’s cultural-linguistic paradigm, Abdullah Saeed’s contextualist approach, and Sahiron Syamsuddin’s maʿnā-cum-maghzā method, highlights both divergences and resonances. The study concludes that al-Dakhīl fī al-Tafsīr should not merely be viewed as deviation, but as a distinct hermeneutical logic mobilized in constructing theological legitimacy and communal identity.
Abdullah QohiNur Fatih AhmadAhmad Mansur

https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1831

Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services have become increasingly popular among millennials in Langsa City. However, the widespread use of BNPL raises potential conflicts with Islamic financial principles such as riba, gharar and maysir. This study aims to analyze BNPL’s compliance with Islamic financial principles and its implications for the financial management and financial sustainability of millennials in Langsa City. The research employs a mixed methods approach by combining a questionnaire survey and interviews. A total of 150 millennial respondents were selected through cluster sampling and the data were analyzed using SmartPLS. The results indicate that BNPL has a positive and significant effect on millennials’ financial management and financial sustainability. However, BNPL still contains elements of riba and gharar. The analysis shows that Islamic financial principles mediate the influence of BNPL on financial management, but not on financial sustainability. Overall, BNPL has potential as a beneficial modern financial instrument if aligned with Sharia principles. Enhancing Islamic financial literacy is crucial to minimize Sharia-related and financial risks.
Ainul Yusna HarahapDesyana PutriAgustina Nurul FajriahDyah Ayu ArdiyantiRyanda Saputra

https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1531

One of the Walisongo figures who is interesting to look at further in the map of spreading Islam in Java is Raden Umar Said or better known as Sunan Muria. The histories of Sunan Muria itself are based more on stories and folklores that have inlined from generation to generation in the traditional Muslim community around Mount of Muria rather than based on literature and manuscript notes. To fill this empty information space, researchers conducted a study of the intellectual transmissions and teachings of Sunan Muria's mysticism (Sufism) using folklore and cultural anthropology approaches. As a result, the variety of folklores and values of life that internalized in the Muslim community around Mount of Muria at least inherited in two ways. First, collective recognition as part of the Islam missionary of Sunan Muria which is realized by preserving existing of traditions and sacred graves, as well as the importance of connecting people to the intellectual transmission chain that continues from Sunan Muria to the other saints or Wali regarding with Islamization in Java. Second, religious attitudes and values that are strong with the values of humanity, tolerance, moderation, integrity in purifying soul and exercising the inner being or mental health. Teachings that are in line with the conception of Sufism teachings based on practices that known as Akhlaqi Sufism.
Ahmad Tajuddin ArafatAtika Ulfia AdlinaHanik Rosyida

https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1677

This study focuses on reinterpreting the meaning of hadiths on female leadership and the implications of Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd's hermeneutics on contextual hadiths. This study is a qualitative study using library research and Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd's hermeneutics approach. The final results obtained from this study are, first, the interpretation of the Qur'an and hadith as texts cannot only be understood through linguistic analysis, but also the historical context at the time the Qur'an and hadith were revealed because the texts have historical dimensions. Second, Abu Zayd explains that in interpreting texts, a mufassir must be able to explain three main concepts, namely meaning (dalalah), significance (magza), and maksut 'anhu (unspoken dimensions). Third, based on the application of hermeneutics, it is concluded that the meaning of the hadith is that the prohibition is specific to the conditions of society at the time of the Prophet. Its significance affirms that leadership requires capacity, not gender, and that Islam must be understood in the spirit of justice and the benefit of the people. Meanwhile, the implicit purpose of the hadith (maqsūd 'anhu) points to the need for stability and social justice that can be achieved by anyone, male or female, as long as they meet the criteria for leadership.
Lisa MawardaMasruhan Masruhan

https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1738

The conflation of male circumcision and female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) in public discourse has created a complex nexus of overlapping cultural, religious, and health norms. This research aims to critically and comparatively analyze both practices to delineate their fundamental distinctions. Employing a qualitative literature review of primary (jurisprudence, fatwas, law) and secondary sources (scholarly journals, reports), the findings reveal a sharp divergence. Male circumcision demonstrates a positive convergence between Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and medical evidence. Conversely, FGM/C reveals a dual contestation: an internal jurisprudential debate between classical and contemporary scholars over the interpretation of religious texts, and a policy-level conflict where a permissive MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council) fatwa clashes with the global medical consensus and prohibitive national law. In conclusion, the two practices are fundamentally different. Therefore, this study recommends that the government adopts the WHO’s definition of FGM/C into a binding national regulatory framework, thereby creating a single, authoritative standard across all policy sectors to protect the health rights and bodily integrity of women and children.
Irfan FauziYeni Amalia LubisAhmad Mahrus MariadiRiski Taufikur Rahman

https://journal.ipmafa.ac.id/index.php/islamicreview/article/view/1837

The motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (Unity in Diversity) is a hallmark of Indonesia. With this motto, the Indonesian people uphold unity amidst abundant diversity. Unfortunately, in social reality, conflicts stemming from differences in identity often occur. This situation is further complicated in social spaces such as campuses, which are miniature versions of multicultural societies. Therefore, efforts to explore the reality of diverse interactions must be continuously undertaken to find the root of the problem and provide appropriate solutions. This study analyzes the understanding, needs, and challenges of implementing religious values in diverse interactions on campus. Quantitative and qualitative approaches with exploratory descriptive methods were used in this study. The results show that respondents have an inclusive understanding of religious values and require safe spaces for dialogue, early diversity education, and digital religious literacy to support their implementation. Challenges they face include prejudice, fear of being misunderstood, and a lack of interfaith understanding, which undermines inclusive communication in a pluralistic society.

Pandu HyangsewuHilman Taufik AbdillahPuput RahmaniaHayatunnisa HayatunnisaMuhamad Ridwan Sudaryat
